Q

What are the age requirements for admission?

A

At BHMS, the age requirements vary by program.
Applicants to the Twos Program must turn 2 years old by July 31 of the school year they wish to begin school.

Age cut-off is Sept 1 for applicants to Preschool through First Grade.
Age cut-off for Full Day 3s is 3 years/6months by Sept 1.

For example: Preschool 4s: age 4 by September 1; Kindergarten: age 5 by Sept 1; 1st grade: age 6 by Sept 1

When is your application deadline?

A

For the 2015-16 school year deadline dates:
Twos: September 19, 2014
3s, 4s, Kindergarten: October 15, 2014
1st - 8th grade: December 1, 2014

*PLEASE NOTE that due to volume Twos & Preschool admissions may need to close prior to the application deadline. We will contact you about the status of your application.

Teacher Recommendation Form & Transcript (if applicable) are due by January 16.

Families are welcome to call the Admissions Office during the spring to learn if we are able to accept applications for any grade level.

When will parents be notified of admissions decisions?

A

BHMS adheres to the ISAAGNY (Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York) notification dates. For the 2015-16 school year:


  • 2-, 3-, and 4-year-old applicants notification is sent on February 26, 2015 (family response due by noon on March 6)

  • Kindergarten and First Grade applicants notification is sent on February 6, 2015 (family response due by noon on February 13)

  • Applicants to Grades 2-8 notification is sent on February 3, 2015 (family response due by noon on February 25)

Who comes when?

A

The parent/guardian interview and classroom observation is scheduled once an application form and fee have been submitted to the school; this visit is for adults only.

All applicants are scheduled for a visit to the School before admissions decisions are made.
Candidates for the Twos, Preschool 3s & 4s, and Kindergarten will be scheduled for a weekend or weekday visit in the late fall and winter and should be accompanied by one parent or guardian.

Candidates for the 1st - 8th Grade will be scheduled for a visit on a regular school day.

Please note that the Twos classroom is not open for observations in order to maintain the calm routine of the environment.

What do I do if I have to cancel a scheduled admissions appointment?

A

In the event that you should have to cancel any of your scheduled appointments for any reason, please call the Admissions Office immediately at 718-858-5100 x 120. We will make every attempt to reschedule cancelled appointments promptly, but please be aware that in the busy admissions season, rescheduling may be difficult. We will do everything we can to help you complete the process as soon as possible.

Is a tour required?

A

Tours are not required, but we encourage you to attend one. Tours are for adults only & reservations are required.

What are the requirements for Full Day 3s?

A

The age requirement is a child must be 3 years & 6 months old by Sept 1.
A child must be fully toilet trained.
