What are the age requirements for admission?


At BHMS, the age requirements vary by program.
Applicants to the Twos Program must turn 2 years old by July 31 of the school year they wish to begin school.

Age cut-off is Sept 1 for applicants to Preschool through First Grade.

For example: Preschool 3s: age 3 by September 1; Kindergarten: age 5 by Sept 1; 1st grade: age 6 by Sept 1


When is your application deadline?


For the 2014-15 school year deadline dates:

Kindergarten: Due to volume Kindergarten Applications will not be accepted after 4 pm on Oct. 16, 2013.
Preschool 3s: Due to volume Preschool 3s Applications will not be accepted after 6 pm on Oct. 18, 2013.
Twos Admissions is closed.

Preschool 3s - Grade 8: Application and application fee are due by December 1, 2013*.

*PLEASE NOTE that due to volume Twos & Preschool admissions may need to close prior to the application deadline. We will contact you about the status of your application.

Teacher Recommendation Form & Transcript (if applicable) are due by January 15.

Families are welcome to call the Admissions Office during the spring to learn if we are able to accept applications for any grade level.


When will parents be notified of admissions decisions?


BHMS adheres to the ISAAGNY (Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York) notification dates. For the 2014-15 school year:

  • 2-, 3-, and 4-year-old applicants notification is sent on February 27, 2014 (family response due by noon on March 7)

  • Kindergarten and First Grade applicants notification is sent on February 7, 2014 (family response due by noon on February 14)

  • Applicants to Grades 2-8 notification is sent on February 4, 2014 (family response due by noon on February 26)


Who comes when?


Tours of the school are reserved for adults only and can be made before an application is submitted to the school.

Parent interview and classroom observations are scheduled once an application form and fee have been submitted to the school; this visit is also for adults only. It is important for all parents or legal guardians to have an interview.

Please note that the Twos classroom is not open for observations in order to maintain the calm routine of the environment.

All prospective students are scheduled for a visit to the School before admissions decisions are made. Candidates for the Twos or Preschool 3s & 4s will be scheduled for a weekend or weekday visit in the winter and should be accompanied by one parent or guardian. Candidates for the Kindergarten - 8th Grade will be scheduled for a visit on a regular school day.


What do I do if I have to cancel a scheduled admissions appointment?


In the event that you should have to cancel any of your scheduled appointments for any reason, please call the Admissions Office immediately at 718-858-5100 x 120. We will make every attempt to reschedule cancelled appointments promptly, but please be aware that in the busy admissions season, rescheduling may be difficult. We will do everything we can to help you complete the process as soon as possible.
