Q. What are the age requirements for admission?
Age cut-off is July 31 for applicants to the Twos Program.
Age cut-off is Sept. 1 for applicants to Preschool through Grade 1.
Age cut-off for Full-Day PS3s is 3 years, 3 months* by Sept. 1.
*Age three years by June 1, 2017
Q . When is your application deadline?
For the 2017-18 school year deadline dates:
3-Day Twos: September 16, 2016 / 2-Day Twos: September 29, 2016
PS 3s, PS 4s, Kindergarten: November 1, 2016 Deadline extended for PS 3s & PS 4s November 28, 2016
Grades 1- 8: December 1, 2016
Teacher Recommendation Forms, ISEE Scores, and Transcripts are due by Jan. 9, 2017.
Q.When will parents be notified of admissions decisions?
BHMS adheres to the ISAAGNY (Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York) notification dates. For the 2017-18 school year:
2-, 3-, and 4-year-old applicants notification is sent on February 8, 2017 (family response due by noon, March 3)
Kindergarten applicants notification is sent on February 10, 2017 (family response due by noon, Feb. 17)
Applicants to Grades 1-8 notification is sent on February 7, 2017 (family response due by noon, Feb. 28)
Q. Who comes when?
The parent/guardian interview and classroom observation is scheduled once an application form and fee have been submitted to the school; this visit is for adults only.
All applicants are scheduled for a visit to the School before admissions decisions are made.
Candidates for the Twos, PS 3s, PS4s, and Kindergarten will be scheduled for a weekend or weekday visit in the fall and early winter and should be accompanied by one parent or guardian.
Candidates for Grades 1-8 will be scheduled for a visit on a regular school day, in the fall and early winter.
Please note that the Twos classroom is not open for observations in order to maintain the calm routine of the environment.
Q. What do I do if I have to cancel a scheduled admissions appointment?
Please call the Admissions Office immediately at 718-858-5100 x 120. We will make every attempt to reschedule cancelled appointments promptly; however, be aware that during the busy admissions season rescheduling may be difficult.
Q. Is a tour required?
Tours are not required, but we encourage you to attend one. Tours are for adults only & reservations are required.
Q. What are the requirements for Full Day 3s?
The age requirement is a child must be 3 years, 3 months old by Sept. 1 .
If your child is currently enrolled in a full-day program and has a summer birthday, we can accept an application to the Full Day 3s.
Fully toilet trained.
Q. What are the program hours?
Twos: 9 - 11:45 am
Half-day Preschool: 9 am - 12 pm
Full-day Preschool and Kindergarten: 9 am - 3 pm
Grades 1-3: 8: 20 am - 3 pm
Grades 4-8: 8:15 am - 3:15 pm
