Dear Prospective BHMS Families,

Thank you for your interest in Brooklyn Heights Montessori School.

BHMS is a neighborhood institution and is an important member of the community. Founded in 1965 as a preschool program in Brooklyn Heights, the School now serves children age two to grade 8 in a beautiful 40, 000 sq. foot facility at the intersection of Court and Bergen Streets in Cobble Hill. Both the American Montessori Society and the New York State Association of Independent Schools accredit our school.

Of all the resources here at BHMS- the spacious classrooms, the wireless technology, the art throughout the halls- it is the people here that most represent who and what we really are. Like our neighborhood, the families and the faculty at BHMS are diverse and represent a myriad of cultural, ethnic, economic, and family backgrounds. We value this diversity and at the same time we value all the many ways in which we are similar and united.

As part of the admissions process, you are warmly invited to tour the school and to spend time in one of our classrooms, where you will see our children and teachers sharing activities and experiences in environments thoughtfully prepared to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of all our students.

From the critical years of early childhood through the formative years of adolescence, BHMS is proud to provide an environment and a program respectful of each child’s individual personality and potential. Guided by the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori we nurture in our students a love of learning, satisfaction in pursuing meaningful work, and fostering personal respect and responsibility. Our graduates are well prepared for the rigors of high school and our ever-changing world.
