The Little Room

Since 1970 BHMS has been home to another extraordinary program: The Little Room. The Little Room offers three Preschool classes serving children with speech and language delays. This program provides a modified Montessori curriculum within a small therapeutic classroom. Children receive clinical services in school and the clinical/classroom teams work collaboratively to support each student’s strengths and goals.

In addition to small, language-based classrooms, The Little Room Preschool offers mainstreaming opportunities in conjunction with the Montessori Preschool classrooms. This gives Little Room students a chance to “practice” in the mainstream environment and provides all students increased opportunities for friendship.

The Little Room is a New York State Education Department approved and funded special education preschool program, a preschool evaluation site, and a SEIT (Special Education Itinerant Teacher) provider. Related services (speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling) are provided to preschool and elementary age youngsters from the greater community. All services are covered under the NYC Department of Education are free of cost to families.
