Remote Learning in the Twos and Preschool
Remote Learning in our Twos and Preschool programs is going strong! While shifting our Preschool programming to a virtual format has taken some flexibility and ingenuity, our grounding in our mission and Montessori philosophy has guided us through the transition. The objectives of a Montessori education go far beyond just the physical materials and physical space. A Montessori education, at its core, meets the developmental needs of the child. For preschool-aged children, lessons are designed to nurture and develop concentration, independence, coordination, the five senses, as well as language and math skills. On the social-emotional side, children are taught to engage in positive relationships with others and to understand how to be a part of a group. They learn reflective listening, empathy, and personal responsibility.
Our teachers are delivering the curriculum while supporting the social-emotional growth of our students in many ways. Every day, students meet as a whole class and as well as in smaller groups. Teachers design a weekly schedule, which balances synchronous and asynchronous learning and in addition to live class time includes recorded lessons; links to worksheets; instructions for activities and experiments; music, library, and physical education programming; teacher read alouds; and other educational resources. In both familiar and new ways students are connecting, to exploring, and finding joy in learning.
