Human Resources & Payroll Manager

Essential Functions

  • Onboarding of all new employees, temp, 1099s, and contractors
  • Administer all employee benefits and ensure effective and timely communication.
  • Develop, implement and maintain effective compliance with applicable employment regulations.
  • Oversee fingerprinting, sexual harassment, NYS Mandated Reporter compliance requirements.
  • Manage employee time and attendance reporting in Payroll system (Paycom)
  • Review and manage workers compensation and NYS Unemployment claims
  • Review all Insurance and Pension invoices for accuracy
  • Oversee the employee orientation process and document completion.
  • Consult with employees to resolve personnel issues.
  • Coordinate recruitment with departments representatives.
  • Coordinate salary changes and oversee correct FLSA classification of jobs.
  • Maintain secure and confidential human resource related files and records.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate job descriptions.
  • Consult with Director of Finance, as necessary to minimize potential liability.
  • Compile data needed to complete nondiscrimination testing for FSA.
  • File annual 5500 reports for qualified benefit plans.
  • Review and revise employee handbook relating to employee issues and make recommendations as needed.
  • File all required HR documentation, as needed.

Pension

  • Enroll employees on school’s 403B pension plan
  • Oversee the submission of monthly contributions for pension plan
  • Prepare benefit requests for Defined Benefit Plan participants.
  • File 5500 reports for pension plans.
  • Collect data for nondiscrimination testing.

Payroll

  • Assist in processing payroll
  • Assist in reviewing timesheets
  • Manage time and attendance process in payroll system
  • Serve as back-up in processing payroll

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of increasingly responsible human resources experience.
  • Knowledge of CARES Act policies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels in the organizations.
  • Working knowledge of human resource principles, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to effectively deal with multiple priorities, functions and activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of recent FMLA and PFL
  • Short and Long-term Disability policies
  • Working knowledge and skill of basic business software, including word processing spreadsheets and data base tracking systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to personnel, payroll and HR matters.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Generally, works in standard office conditions and climate.
  • Works in a high stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.

IT Support Technician


Job Description: I T Support Technician Start Date: Immediate Reports to: Director of Technology & Risk Management Part-time, 12-month position Brooklyn Heights Montessori School is seeking an IT Support Specialist starting immediately. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Working as part of a nimble and supportive team to ensure the successful integration, usage, and continued functioning of technology at the school
  • Supporting employee and student use of technology in a fast-paced academic environment
  • Assisting employees and students on a variety of hardware and software issues
  • Responding to tech support tickets, telephone calls, email, and in person requests for technical support
  • Troubleshooting basic networking issues
  • Supporting and troubleshooting Audio/Video equipment across campus

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technology related discipline

  • Expert knowledge and experience in configuration and troubleshooting of computer hardware and operating systems including MacOS, Chrome OS, and iOS
  • Expert in G Suite cloud computing, productivity and collaboration tools
  • Strong Audio/Visual support required
  • Familiarity with the following technologies preferred: Chromebook management, G Suite administration, Cisco Meraki, Addigy MDM, SSO
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly, professional, and timely manner with students, faculty, staff and parents

Lower School Learning Specialist


Job Description: Lower School Learning Specialist (Part-Time or Full-Time) Start Date: Immediate Reports to: Head of The Lower School and School Psychologist
Brief Description: 10-month position - Full or Part Time (in which case some areas of the description below would be reduced). The Lower School Learning Specialist works as part of a team of classroom teachers, administrators, school psychologist, to aid student learning in Kindergarten through Third Grade through instruction, observation, and teacher support. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Teacher Support (Remote)
  • Work with teachers to identify a student’s learning difficulties
  • Analysis of reading/math assessments (conducting some as needed)
  • Contact with outside tutors and service providers with teachers, as needed
  • Conduct professional development for faculty
  • Student Support (Remote and in-person as deemed appropriate)
  • Individual reading/math instruction
  • Generate and maintain learning plans from student evaluations
  • Utilization of Orton-Gilingham or other remedial reading program
  • Support for children (and teachers as needed) with Daily 5 Literacy Framework
Parent Support (Remote)
  • Parent education around their child’s Learning Difficulties, Evaluations and Learning Plans
  • Attendance at parent/teacher conferences as needed
  • School Responsibilities (Remote)
  • Attendance at meetings - team, program, all-school, supervisory
  • Admissions support as needed
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience working remotely with students
  • Masters Degree in Special Education or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Learning Specialist and/or Reading Specialist
  • Understanding of K-3rd Grade curriculum
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Experience with various programs such as the Hochman Method, Daily 5 Literacy Framework, Orton-Gillingham a plus
  • Ability to think creatively to help individual children and to work collaboratively with other professionals
  • Montessori training a plus

Upper Elementary Cohort Support and Substitute Teacher


Job Title: Upper Elementary Cohort Support and Substitute Teacher Start Date: Immediate Reports to: Head of the Middle School and the classroom teacher Brief Description: The Upper Elementary Cohort Support and Substitute Teacher will support classroom teachers throughout the school day. The ideal candidate will be comfortable spending time with students in grades 4-6 in a mixed age setting, firmly guiding them and keeping them on track with assignments. Part Time, 10-Month Position. The hours are Monday-Thursday 10:00am-2:30pm with possibility to substitute for full days as necessary. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Follow BHMS safety protocols listed in the Faculty and Staff Handbook (including but not limited to: properly wearing face coverings, maintaining 6 feet distance, frequent handwashing)
  • Serve as a substitute teacher when remote or in-person teacher is absent
  • Work in partnership with the cohort teacher or other classroom teachers to make sure students keep up with assignments
  • Support students during in-class remote learning times
  • Supervise students during lunch and outdoor play
  • Accompany students and teachers to the park and on neighborhood walks
  • Have fun and be flexible in a fast paced environment
Skills or experience with any or all of the following are also desirable: Zoom, Canvas, FlipGrid and other online learning platforms.
