FINANCIAL AID FAQS

What is the priority given to allocating financial aid awards?

BHMS allocates financial aid systematically: first to returning families currently receiving financial aid, then to current families who experience a change in economic circumstances and thirdly, to families applying to the School.

When should I apply and what is the Financial Aid Application deadline?

Apply in October and November, the year prior to the school year in which you plan to enroll or re-enroll. The deadline is December 1.

Who needs to apply?

Both custodial parents/guardians and non-custodial parents/guardians must complete a Financial Aid Application and follow the same procedures, regardless of marital status and financial arrangements dictated by legal settlements. A parent/guardian’s refusal to comply will jeopardize a student’s ability to receive aid.

Do I need to reapply for Financial Aid?

Yes, families need to reapply every year. Awards are granted one year at a time.

What grades or programs are eligible for Financial Aid?

Financial Aid is available beginning in Kindergarten.

What resources are considered?

In determining a financial aid award, all the financial resources that are available to the applicant are considered, including the financial resources of non-custodial parents, step-parents, and the child’s assets. Please refer to the TADS Worksheet for the list of required documents.

Do Financial Aid Awards change?

If a family’s financial situation has not changed the School will endeavor to continue to provide aid at a consistent level.

Can I appeal an award decision?

Yes, a family can make an appeal to the Director of Financial Aid. The Financial Aid Committee will request additional information to help the committee better understand the family’s financial situation.

How much Financial Aid is awarded?

On average 22% of the student body receives Financial Aid. The awards vary in size.

Is After Care discounted?

Yes, the cost of MAP (Montessori Afternoon Plus) is offered at a discounted rate to BHMS families receiving financial aid.

What is expected of families?

The Financial Aid Application will be completed truthfully. All required documents will be submitted in a timely manner. Families who receive financial aid awards will keep their award information confidential.

What can families expect of the school?

All information submitted to TADS and BHMS is confidential and will be treated as such.

If the Financial Aid Application is complete, this includes all required supporting documentation, by the deadline, the School will make an award decision in accordance with the enrollment and re-enrollment deadlines.
