What are the age requirements for admission?

Age 2.0 years by July 31 of entry year Preschool 3s Half-Day: Age 3.0 years by September 1 of entry year Preschool 3s Full-Day: Age 3 years 3 months by September 1 of entry year. If your child is currently enrolled in a full-day program and has a summer birthday, we will accept an application to the Full-Day PS 3s. Preschool 4s Half-Day & Full-Day: Age 4.0 years by September 1 of entry year Kindergarten: Age 5.0 years by September 1 of entry year Grade 1: Age 6.0 years by September 1 of entry year Please note: a child has to be fully toilet trained before beginning the Full-Day program.

When is your application deadline?

3-Day Twos / 2-Day Twos: November 2, 2020 PS 3s and PS 4s: December 1, 2020 Kindergarten: December 1, 2020 Grades 1- 8*: December 1, 2020 *Prior approval from the Admissions Office is required to apply to Grade 8 since it is the terminal grade

When will parents be notified of admissions decisions?

BHMS adheres to the ISAAGNY (Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York) notification dates. Notification is sent via email. For the 2021-22 school year: Twos, PS 3s, and PS 4s applicants notification is sent on February 25, 2021 (family response due by noon, March 4) Kindergarten applicants notification is sent on February 4, 2021 (family response due by noon, February 11) Grades 1-8 applicants notification is sent on February 9, 2021 (family response due by noon, March 2)

Who comes when?

The parent/guardian interview is scheduled once an application form and fee have been submitted to the school. Please note the interview is for adults only. The format will be virtual. All eligible applicants will be scheduled for a virtual visit with a member of the admission office. The applicant will need to be accompanied by one parent or guardian. The virtual visits will occur in the fall and early winter.

What do I do if I have to cancel a scheduled admissions appointment?

Please email the Admissions Office immediately at We will make every attempt to reschedule cancelled appointments; however, be aware that during the busy admissions season rescheduling may be difficult and is not guaranteed.

What are the entry points?

The Twos Program and Preschool 3s are the largest entry points. However, every year children join the community in the Preschool 4s through Grade 7.

What are the program hours?

Is there Early Care and After Care available?

We offer fee based Early Morning Drop-Off (EMD) beginning at 8:00am for students age 3+.
We have a robust after school program, Montessori Afternoons Plus (MAP) available to all full day students. MAP is fee based and registration is required. Learn more about our after school offerings by visiting the MAP page.


What is the priority given to allocating financial aid awards?

BHMS allocates financial aid systematically: first to returning families currently receiving financial aid, then to current families who experience a change in economic circumstances and thirdly, to families applying to the School.

When should I apply and what is the Financial Aid Application deadline?

Apply in October and November, the year prior to the school year in which you plan to enroll or re-enroll. The deadline is December 1.

Who needs to apply?

Both custodial parents/guardians and non-custodial parents/guardians must complete a Financial Aid Application and follow the same procedures, regardless of marital status and financial arrangements dictated by legal settlements. A parent/guardian’s refusal to comply will jeopardize a student’s ability to receive aid.

Do I need to reapply for Financial Aid?

Yes, families need to reapply every year. Awards are granted one year at a time.

What grades or programs are eligible for Financial Aid?

Financial Aid is available beginning in Kindergarten.

What resources are considered?

In determining a financial aid award, all the financial resources that are available to the applicant are considered, including the financial resources of non-custodial parents, step-parents, and the child’s assets. Please refer to the TADS Worksheet for the list of required documents.

Do Financial Aid Awards change?

If a family’s financial situation has not changed the School will endeavor to continue to provide aid at a consistent level.

Can I appeal an award decision?

Yes, a family can make an appeal to the Director of Financial Aid. The Financial Aid Committee will request additional information to help the committee better understand the family’s financial situation.

How much Financial Aid is awarded?

On average 22% of the student body receives Financial Aid. The awards vary in size.

Are Early Morning Drop-Off and After School Care discounted?

Yes, the cost of MAP (Montessori Afternoon Plus) and EMD (Early Morning Drop-Off) are offered at a discounted rate to BHMS families receiving financial aid.

What is expected of families?

The Financial Aid Application will be completed truthfully. All required documents will be submitted in a timely manner. Families who receive financial aid awards will keep their award information confidential.

What can families expect of the school?

All information submitted to TADS and BHMS is confidential and will be treated as such.

If the Financial Aid Application is complete, this includes all required supporting documentation, by the deadline, the School will make an award decision in accordance with the enrollment and re-enrollment deadlines.
