Endowment & Capital Giving
A gift to the endowment at Brooklyn Heights Montessori School is a gift in perpetuity. Your gift will be invested into the BHMS endowment, adding to its principal, and the income generated will be directed toward the designated purpose. The endowed funds at BHMS currently support financial aid in several forms. Gifts to endowment are always welcomed and appreciated. For further information, please contact Melissa Ritchie, Director of Institutional Advancement.
J.C. Kellogg Fund for Financial Aid
This endowed fund supports the school's commitment to socio-economic diversity in the preschool through grade 8. The J.C. Kellogg Fund for Financial Aid leads the way in making a direct impact on the school’s ability to offer financial support to a wide variety of students. You can make a gift to this fund online or by contacting Melissa Ritchie.
The Lucian Merryweather Fund
The Lucian Merryweather Fund provides financial aid to new students entering upper elementary or middle school. The Lucian Merryweather Memorial Fund for Financial Aid was established in 2013 by Tom and Marilyn Merryweather to honor their grandson in perpetuity. The fund is intended to celebrate Lucian’s love of learning and compassion for others by giving the gift of a BHMS education. Lucian is deeply missed by his family and friends and remembered as a deep thinker, a talented artist, a loyal friend and loving big brother. Brooklyn Heights Montessori School has launched successful campaigns to raise money to enhance and expand our campus, enrich our faculty and staff professional development, and cultivate our library and programs.
Raise the Roof
A major construction and renovation project, Raise the Roof transformed our third floor Visual and Performing Arts classrooms, creating more functional classroom and gallery space and completely remodeled our lower school play roof. This project completed our campus, building a brand new outdoor classroom, turf field and bridge for our students to learn, play and grow! Raise the Roof was a true community effort from the ground up. With input from teachers throughout the design process, insight from our board of trustees and contributions from many generous supporters, Raise the Roof is the product of our community coming together with a bold vision for our students. You can make a gift or pay on a previous pledge online or by contacting Melissa Ritchie.
The Dane Peters Fund for Lifelong Learning
Named in honor of our former Head of School (2002-2013), the Dane Peters Fund supports professional development for faculty and staff. During his eleven-year tenure, Dane passionately advocated for the importance of lifelong learning and its influence on program excellence. Sustained investment in professional development enriches our students’ education and supports BHMS’s strong reputation in the Montessori and independent school communities. You can make a gift to this fund online or by contacting Melissa Ritchie.
The Martha Haakmat Library
Named in honor of our former Head of School (2013-2019), the Martha Haakmat Library recognizes Martha’s transformative work in program excellence. Gifts to the library provide expanded shelving for our ever-growing collection, exciting new books for all ages, upgraded technology, and fabulous speakers and workshops. At the heart of BHMS, the Martha Haakmat Library has an impact on all the children in our community, from the Twos through Eighth Grade, and also support our exceptional faculty and staff. You can make a gift to this fund online or by contacting Melissa Ritchie.
